Oscar Wilde
Oscar Fingal O'Flahertie Wills Wilde (16 October 1854 -30 November 1890) was an Irish playwright, poet, short story writer and novelist.
Known for his sharp wit, he became one of the most successful playwrights of the late Victorian era in London and one of the great celebrities of his day.
Many of his plays such as The Importance of Being Earnest and The Picture of Dorian Gray are highly regarded today and continued to be performed worldwide.
Wilde fell into disrepute to the scandal surrounding his affair with the young Lord Alfred Douglas and sentenced to two years in Reading Gaol. He never recovered from this experience and died in 1900.
