Breen are an old Irish family dating from ancient times. The name Breen comes from two Irish clans, the MacBreens and the O'Breens. The chief ofthe O'Breens was the lord of Brawney, near Athlone in Co. Westmeath. The MacBraoin'salso held land in Co. Kilkenny but were overthrown during the Norman invasion.
